She received her Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Smith College in 1914, a Master’s in education from University of Chicago in 1930, and her Ph.D. in mathematics from The Catholic University of America in 1943.

Dr. Euphemia Lofton Haynes, 90, a former D.C. board of education president and member and a Washington educator for nearly 50 years, died Thursday at the Washington Hospital Center. She had been hospitalized since suffering a stroke July 25. Dr. Haynes served as school board president from July 1966 to July 1967.
